Who are flexitarians?

Have you heard of people who call themselves Flexitarians? Or maybe you are already such, but you just don't know about it yet? Flexitarianism is a trend in dietetics, which implies a partial rejection of meat and animal products.

Partial, but not complete, that is why these people can not be called vegetarians, although flexitarianism is often called its main subspecies, with which real vegetarians completely disagree.

"Either you completely refuse animal food, or you have no right to call yourself a real vegetarian!" I must say that the latter generally have a dubious attitude to the new-fashioned diet, and even call this way of eating a kind of “slyness”. To which the experienced followers of the half-clear diet fend off: “We are reducing the possible evil!”. And maybe they are right about something.

What are the main features of flexitarianism? The word itself came to us from the English language and is a merger of two words: “flexible”, which translates as “flexible” and, accordingly, vegetarianism.Basically, people who adhere to such norms of nutrition consume fruits, vegetables and other vegetable products, and meat is considered as an additive to the basic ration, and not as a staple food, as is common in many people.

Thanks to this method of nutrition, a person does not lack fat and protein, as is the case with the same vegetarians. And, at the same time, they will not experience deficiency of fiber, as it happens in meat-lovers.

Flexitarians can be subdivided into several types. For example, beginner flexitarians are those who have excluded meat from their diet for 2 days a week. There is also an average and the highest level, respectively, the rejection of meat products for 3-4 days and 5 (or more) days a week. Who knows, maybe you can take yourself to the beginning level today.

It is believed that the idea of this diet was formed about 10 years ago by Down Blatner, who advanced the theory of the benefits of reducing the amount of meat consumed in food. Thanks to such nutrition, it is possible to significantly reduce body weight without losing health, as well as reduce the risk of various diseases, including cardiovascular diseases. In addition, this type of food is great for people with diabetes.

What is being said in the world?

Despite the fact that this trend continues to actively develop and record crowds of admirers in its ranks, there are many opponents of flexitarianism, especially among vegetarians. As they argue, you can not be half vegetarian, just as there is no semi-fish or semi-vegetable.

They believe that this current trend greatly confuses people and such expressions as “vegetarian-meat-eating” begin to appear in the world, which is fundamentally incompatible. Needless to say, everyone is free to think and reason as he likes. What do you think about this?
