Why This 5-Year-Old Boy Paid For Police Officers' Lunch Using His Own Money
This 5-Year-Old Boy Saved His Allowance to Buy Lunch for His Local Cops
Seven months ago, William Evertz, Jr. started saving his allowance for a Power Wheels police cruiser. Then, he had a change of heart. Instead of the toy, he decided to use his savings to buy a healthy lunch for his local police officers.
William, his mom, Tara Evertz, and his grandmother went to Subway this week to buy sandwiches for what William called a "kindness day," according toNBC New York. Evertz said her son came up with the idea after watching a YouTube video about a homeless person.
"Next thing you know it was, 'I want to help the kids and I want to help the police,'" Evertz said.
William made the delivery to New Jersey's Winslow Township Police Department sporting his own tiny blue police uniform shirt and patriotic balloons.
He toldNBC New Yorkabout his local police, "I like them because they keep us safe."
The police made William an honorary officer, complete with his own badge, and gave him a ride home in a cop car with sirens blaring.
After that delivery, William planned to drop off school supplies to a local shelter.
"It just shows the type of parents he has raising him," Winslow Township Police Chief George Smith told the outlet.
Tara said, "I am so proud of him.
