How to remove the printer driver?

If you need to remove the printer driver from the registry of the operating system of your computer (the program is installed incorrectly or does not match the OS), use the following algorithm:

How to uninstall the XP printer driver:

  • Click "Start" -> then "Printers and Faxes"
  • Choose in the menu File -> "Print Server Properties".
  • In the window that appears, look for the tab "Drivers"
  • Select the printer to be deleted, and click "Delete."
  • The driver must be removed.

How to uninstall the Windows7 printer driver:

  • Click "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Devices and Printers"
  • In the window that appears, select the printer. The phrase "View Print Queue" should appear in the menu.
  • Click "View Print Queue"
  • Select the option "Print Server Properties"
  • In the window that appears, select "Drivers"
  • We are looking for a printer to be deleted, click "Delete".
  • The driver must be removed.

It happens that the incorrectly installed driver refuses to be deleted from the RAM.Liquidation seems to occur in the Devices and Printers tab, but after a reboot, it automatically loads again. We will tell you how to remove the printer driver in this situation with Windows 7:

  • Select "Control Panel" -> "Devices and Printers" and delete the corresponding printer. Do not reboot!
  • Click "Start", then "Run" and type Services.msc. After that, we get to the “Services” and restart the “Print Manager”.
  • Click "Start", then - "Run." Enter printui / s / t2. We get into the "Print Server Properties". Remove from there the driver of a specific printer. We can use the function “Remove driver and driver package”.
  • We enter the "Print Management", click "Start", then "Run." Enter printmanagement.msc. In the “Custom Filters” folder, select the “All Drivers” tab. On the required driver removal, right-click. In the menu that appears, we find "Remove driver package." If an error message appears, the program has already been deleted. We carry out the same actions in the “Print Management” panel: in the “Print Servers” column, we find “Drivers and Printers” and delete the driver.

All the above actions should have removed the driver completely and irrevocably. However, for security, take a few more steps:

  • Go to the "Uninstall or change a program" menu and see if there is a mention of a remote printer. If there is, click "Delete", and eliminate the remaining components of the program. Also delete files related to the printer from the PC, starting with the “Program Files” folder.
  • Review the registry: are there any keys that mention the name of the remote printer?
  • Reboot your PC and start installing the new driver.
