How to maintain diesel

Cars with diesel engines are gaining popularity due to their efficiency, simplicity, reliability and high torque. However, few car owners know about the features of servicing diesel engines and about the service itself in general. See also how to reduce engine noise.

Do not spare funds for the purchase of consumables. Significantly save all the same will not work, and the damage from the use of low-quality consumables can be reflected in a serious reduction in engine life. Oil, all filters are the very materials to the quality of which any diesel unit is very sensitive.

How to maintain diesel correctly

The oil and filter change interval is 7,000 km for severe operating conditions and 10,000 km for light. Preemptive driving off-road and around the city should be considered harsh operating conditions. Also be sure to follow the shelf life of the oil and its seasonality in relation to the time of year. If the car runs low, change the oil twice a year before the onset of the cold and warm season.

Watch the condition of the timing belt and change it in a timely manner when signs of wear appear, if it is damaged, or after every 70,000 km of run or every 3 years (whichever comes first). If the design of a diesel engine provides an individual belt drive the high pressure fuel pump (high pressure pump), be sure to change it along with the timing belt.

Determining the state of the timing belt in a visual way is extremely difficult. The "fatigue" of the rubber belt cord is not visible to the eye, but can lead to damage and breakage of the belt itself. Therefore, upon reaching the specified mileage, be sure to change the belt, regardless of its appearance. Together with the belt, replace all associated rotating parts (tensioning pulley and pump pulley) to prevent the belt from jamming or premature belt wear.

Periodically do diagnostics in the service, specializing in diesel engines. This should be done every season in order to prevent damage to the power unit. Thus, by the way, saving money is achieved. After all, repair of a diesel engine is more complicated and expensive than repair of a gasoline engine, and the cost of diagnostics on the service is significantly cheaper than repair.
