'Feud' Season 2 Takes On Princess Diana
'Feud' Season Two Will Tackle Prince Charles and Princess Diana
WithFeud: Bette and Joannow days away from its premiere on FX, Ryan Murphy has already figured out how to follow the act that is Bette Davis and Joan Crawford's rivalry. Season two ofFeudwill chronicle the notoriously unhappy marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
Varietyreports that the new 10-episode season will be penned by Murphy and Jon Robin Baitz, and follow Charles and Diana's much-scrutinized relationship which spanned two decades. Charles first met the teenage Diana in 1977, and the pair were married in 1981 in a dramatic royal wedding which transformed Diana into a global celebrity. Though the general consensus is that Charles and Diana were miserable from the beginning, they stayed together until 1992, and officially divorced in 1996. Exactly a year later, Diana was killed in a car crash.
This puts Feud's second season into potential competition with Netflix's Royal dramaThe Crown, which plans to introduce Diana at the end of its third season. It's likely thatFeud's take on Diana will air beforeThe Crown's–the latter is still shooting its second season, with no release date yet announced–but much depends on howFeudis scheduled alongside Murphy's other nascent FX anthology seriesAmerican Crime Story. The latter will tackle Hurricane Katrina, the murder of Gianni Versace and the Monica Lewinsky scandal over its next three seasons.
